How do I submit?

Please read below and find the guidelines for your specific entry type (article, artwork, photography, literature or recipe). Submit your entry to us via email: purpleyamzine@gmail.com

Will I get paid?

We are unfortunately unable to pay for selected submissions at this time. In the future, we hope to properly compensate contributors for their work.

What does Purple Yam look for in a submission?

We are looking for work that will thoughtfully reflect or address the Filipinx-American experience. Your work should focus on Filipinx-American culture, identity and/or issues. If you have any questions, please email us.

When should I submit?

We accept submissions year round.

Does Purple Yam accept previously published material?

We ask that you submit entries that have not been previously published--this includes work that has been published digitally or in print.

Article

Length: 500 - 1,500 words

File type: .doc or .docx

Notes: Article submissions should focus on Filipinx-American culture, identity and/or issues.

If your submission contains any accompanying assets, such as videos or images, please ensure that you own the rights or that you provide the proper link and credits.

​

Format: 

• Title

• Name of author

• Body

​

Artwork/Photography

File size: Minimum 3000px

File type: .jpg, .png or .tiff

Resolution: Minimum 300 dpi

Note: When submitting your file, please label as such

 

First name Last name_Title of the piece.jpg making sure that underscores go between your name and the name of the piece 

(i.e. Full Name_Name of Piece.JPG).

Literature

We accept literature in the forms of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

Length:

• Fiction (2-5 pages)

• Non-fiction (2-5 pages)

• Poetry (1-5 pages)

File  type: .doc or .docx

Notes: Literature submissions should Filipino-American culture, identity and/or issues. We accept literature in English, Tagalog and any Philippine dialect, including any combination of the aforementioned languages.
